Biography
John LaFoy, a Past President of the ASGCA, has a rich history in golf course design, which was spurred when he assisted George Cobb in remodeling Augusta National. Since then, he has remodeled a number of classic layouts, demonstrating a deep respect and engagement with the designs of iconic architects like A.W. Tillinghast, Alister Mackenzie, Seth Raynor, and Charles Blair MacDonald.
LaFoy has not only renovated existing designs but has created his own. He's credited with designing and renovating over 100 golf courses, with standout projects including the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. and the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala.
Currently, LaFoy is leading his own design firm, located in Greenville, S.C, leaving an influential mark in golf course architecture. His contribution to the field extends beyond course design or renovation but also preservation of classic golf architectures made by past masters. His expertise in the area of remodeling and renovation extends the legacy of golf course designs for future generations.
